Shortcuts recipes
Shortcuts is Apple's built-in automation app - it lets All About The Points answer questions and act, right from your Home Screen, the Action button, or Siri, without opening the app first. The five recipes below use actions that already ship in the app today; there is nothing to update or unlock, just a few minutes in the Shortcuts app to set one up.
Checkout Helper
A manual shortcut that asks which spending category you're about to pay in, then answers with your best card - perfect for a Home Screen icon or the Action button at checkout.
- Open the Shortcuts app → tap the + to start a new shortcut.
- Search “All About The Points” and add the action “Best card for spending category.”
- Leave its Category parameter set to Ask Each Time (don't tap a fixed value), so running the shortcut always prompts which category.
- Rename the shortcut “Checkout Helper.”
- Tap the shortcut's settings (i) icon → Add to Home Screen (icon suggestion: a credit-card glyph).
- Optional, iPhone 15 Pro/16/17 Pro or newer: Settings → Action Button → Shortcut → “Checkout Helper” - press-and-hold at the register for a hands-free category prompt then card answer.
Morning Digest
A personal automation that silently notifies you every morning about credits expiring this month.
- Shortcuts app → Automation tab → + → Create Personal Automation.
- Choose Time of Day → 9:00 AM → Daily.
- Add action: search “All About The Points” → “Credits expiring this month.”
- Add a “Show Notification” action after it, with the previous action's result as the notification body, so the digest surfaces even if the phone is locked.
- Turn off “Ask Before Running” in the automation's settings so it fires silently.
- Name it “Morning Digest.”
“When I open [shopping app]”
A personal automation that answers your best card the instant you open a specific shopping app - Amazon, Target, or any app you shop in often.
- Automation tab → + → App.
- Choose the shopping app (Amazon, Target, etc.) → Is Opened.
- Add action “Best card for spending category” with Category prefilled to whatever fits that merchant (e.g. “Online Retail”).
- Add a “Show Result” (or “Speak Text”) action after it so the answer appears as an overlay immediately.
- Turn off “Ask Before Running.”
- Name it after the app, e.g. “Amazon Card Reminder.”
At the Pump
A manual shortcut with the category locked to Gas, so you get an instant answer with one tap - no prompt needed.
- New Shortcut → add “Best card for spending category,” set Category to a fixed “Gas” (not Ask Each Time).
- Rename “Best Card for Gas.”
- Add to Home Screen, or bind to the Action Button alongside/instead of Checkout Helper.
What's Left This Month
A one-tap (or Siri) answer for how much unclaimed credit value you still have this month.
- New Shortcut → add “How much in unclaimed credits do I have.”
- Rename “What's Left This Month.”
- Add to Home Screen. Any saved Shortcut name is automatically a Siri phrase, so “Hey Siri, What's Left This Month” also works once saved - no extra step.
